Irma and my mom Shirley used to swim together at the JCC. After my mom stopped driving, I would pick her up there and we would all go to lunch at the deli in Bishop's Corner. Irma was such a classy lady and a joy to be around, As a Hartt alum, I thank the Handels for all they did for education.

Dear Mort,
I was saddened to hear of Irma´s passing; the last time Irma and I got together for lunch at Panera, she spoke so fondly of her partnership with you! She was full of joy, kind thoughts, and fun! Spending time with Irma was always entertaining and real....she loved life! And you! And her family!
She will be missed.

Candy and I were saddened to learn of Irma's death. While it has been several years since we saw them, like so many if her friends her wonderful photographic art on our walls remind us daily of this wonderful couple. I worked with them both during my quarter century on the board of regents at the Univ of Hartford, admired their generosity to Hartt and the Art school and enjoyed their company at many a dinner, play or other event. Our prayers are with the family. Truly, her memory is a great blessing.

I had the good fortune of working closely with Irma and Mort during their early years sponsoring the Say Yes to Education Program. I was so impressed by their consistent good will and enthusiastic support for the students from Annie Fisher School. From attending many awards ceremonies to chaperoning a trip to Harlem's Apollo Theater, the Handels were always there, walking the walk as well as talking the talk. I wish you the peace and comfort of many, many warm memories Mort and other members of the Handel family. P.S. A candid profile photo that Irma took of me, heartily laughing, at graduation has been on our refrigerator, for years. I've told my family that I'd like it to be my obituary picture

I have spent many years enjoying the Handel Performing Arts Center as a Hartt School faculty member. I enjoyed visiting with Irma in the years after HPAC was completed. Our students and programs will forever be indebted to the Handel family. Blessings and peace to all.

Irma! You were always a warm and enthusiastic supporter of all we did at Hartt Dance and the building of the Handel Performing Arts Center has provided generations of aspiring artists a beautiful and welcoming home in which to learn their craft. Dear Mort, Mark, Gary, Karen and family, Words, alone, cannot capture the life of Irma and the people she affected. I can think of so many other things which also defined her: classical concerts at the Bushnell, beautiful cards, including her photography on the cover to help us celebrate birthdays, her cheerfulness, her desire to help others, her philanthropy, along with Mort, etc. Irma was a dear friend to us, as neighbors in West Hartford and by long distance when she and Mort moved to Florida. We send our condolences to the entire Handel family and our love and admiration to Mort. May your memories of Irma sustain and guide you through your period of mourning and beyond.

Irma was a wonderful woman with a great love of her family and community. She, Mort, Dianne, and I were friends for the entire 19 years I was president of the University of Hartford. Irma and I shared a birthday, and for many years the four of us had dinner together on our joint birthdays, which was always great fun. I will remember her as a woman filled with love and joy, with incredible eye for photography and art.
