On Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Beloved husband of Joan "Kip" Goldberg, and former spouse of the late Elaine Unger Goldberg; beloved father of Gary Goldberg, Robert (Karen) Goldberg, Carol Goldberg, David (Nancy) Beyer and Robert (Janet) Beyer; brother of Pat Rippe, the late Sally Yarchever and Rose Horsman; grandfather of Will Goldberg, Jennifer Goldberg, Courtney King, Melissa Goldberg, Brittany King, Christopher, Kathryn and Madeleine Beyer; also survived by nieces and nephews. Mr. Goldberg was a life-long resident of Pittsburgh, and was raised in Oakland. A graduate of Schenley High School, he served in the Pacific in WWII as a radio man on the USS Wilkes Barre. Upon his return from the war, he attended and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a degree in Business Administration, and later received a Masters degree in Public Health. He became a CPA and served in a series of accounting positions, and joined the staff of Montefiore Hospital in 1951. He became Executive Director in 1961 and served the hospital as President and President Emeritus until 1990. Irv was a mentor to many health care professionals who serve in senior positions throughout the country. He was active in hospital administration professional associations, as well as actively involved in the Jewish community. He served for many years as a trustee of the Jewish Healthcare Foundation. He was a respected member of the community, beloved by many, and will be sorely missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association (PAA), 4215 Fifth Avenue, Oakland.
