Isabel passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in Calgary at the age of 99 years. Isabel will be dearly missed by her sons, Peter (Liz) and Bob (Carol); her grandson James; and her granddaughters, Emma and Paige. She will also be missed by the Watson family of Ontario; her dear friend Marion Crouch of Los Angeles; niece Norma Healey of Sudbury; the Anderson family of Yellowknife; good friend Dorothy Henderson and many other friends in Calgary and Ottawa. Isabel was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Patrick. Isabel was born in Ottawa to Fermus and Mary Slater. Her father was a career public servant and Isabel enjoyed her family life with her two brothers, Bert and Fern. She enjoyed outdoor sports and met Patrick on a ski hill. Their first date was going to church, and they married in 1950. Patrick was a decorated WWII Air Force veteran and public servant who served as a career air traffic controller in Montreal, Lethbridge and Ottawa. Together they had two children, Peter and Robert. Isabel worked full-time for forty-two years in Ottawa for large organizations such as the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation and the Government of Canada Public Works. She enjoyed many social organizations including several tennis clubs, the Canadian Women's Club, lawn bowling and bridge clubs. Isabel was also active in the PTA and enjoyed Ontario cottage life on summer weekends. Isabel and Patrick moved to Calgary in 1984, where she continued to enjoy family life and her grandson, James. Always a social and friendly person, she met many new friends and kept in contact with old friends scattered about North America. She and Patrick resided in southwest Calgary until Patrick's passing at the age of 85. Isabel was greatly appreciative of the care she received by the dedicated staff at the Chinook Care Centre, over the past few years. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church (800 - 85 Street S.W.), on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
