LAMB _ Ivy 1917 - 2004 Ivy Lamb passed away peacefully at Extendicare - Cedars Villa in Calgary on October 13, 2004. Ivy was born on May 21, 1917 on a homestead south of Plato, Sask. Following the death of her mother Bertha in 1922, she went to live with her Aunt and Uncle, George and Isabella Getty and their four daughters in Moose Jaw. She stayed in Moose Jaw for four years then went home to her father and brothers in Plato where she attended the Plato School. Ivy returned to her Moose Jaw home to attend Grade 12 and Normal School. She was fortunate to get a teaching position in the primary room of the Summerside School in Archydale, where she spent three years. From there she went to Forest Hall, near North Battleford for three years, Cavalier for one year, and Whitewood Lake for another year. On December 24, 1942, she married William Lamb, who farmed in the Forest Hall district near North Battleford, Sask. and on January 27, 1944 a daughter, Sylvia was born. As a result of a teacher shortage Bill and Ivy moved to North Battleford in 1948 where she resumed the career she loved. She taught primary school at Connaught School, King Street School and then at Bready School. In 1963, she became one of the first kindergarten teachers in the public school system and taught at that level until 1970 then transferred to years one and two. She served as vice principal of Bready in 1972 to 1973 and retired after teaching for thirty-five years in 1974. Ivy had a great love for children and brought out the best in every child she taught. She was very active in her community. She was president of the Battlefords branch of the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation (STF), an executive member of the Elementary Teachers Association of the STF, a charter member and one term president of the Early Childhood Education Council, and a founding member of the STF (superannuates). She was an active member of the Third Avenue United Church Women, a charter member of the Co-op Women's Guild and the Old Time Dance Club, a member of the Mount Hope Women's Institute and the Home and School Association. She was a firm believer and an active supporter of the Co-op, the Credit Union and the New Democratic Party. In her retirement she and Bill enjoyed traveling, winters in Arizona, visits with grandsons and visiting with the many friends they made wherever they went. They took great pleasure and pride in working with others on "Prairie Wool & Pussy Willows", a history of several of the school districts near North Battleford. Widowed in 1996, she soon moved to Calgary. There she was able to make a new life, new friends and enjoy more time with her family. Ivy was predeceased by her mother Bertha in 1922; four brothers, Lindsay, Laynel, Emanuel and Joseph; her Aunt Isabella; her Uncle George; her four cousins, Margaret, Catherine, Georgina, Ellen; her father William Poole Wynn in 1952; and her husband William in 1996. Left to mourn her loss are her daughter Sylvia, son-in-law Ron McIntosh, grandsons, Peter (Elizabeth) and David (Debra) and two great-granddaughters, Hannah and Joy, all of Calgary, AB. The family wants to thank all the staff at Cedars Villa who gave her loving care, her friends at The Manors in Calgary who welcomed her so warmly into their midst and the friends in North Battleford who kept her in their hearts for so long. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 18 at Third Avenue United Church in North Battleford. Memorial tributes may be made directly to the Battlefords Union Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice. The family thanks Brent Hack of Pierson's Funeral Service in Calgary and Bob MacKay of The Battlefords Funeral Service. 264757
