Neal is survived by his loving wife, Roberta Matheson, and his daughters, Jennifer Matheson (55), Lori West (53) (Scott), and Jillian Sawyer (49) (Timothy). He was also a proud grandfather to his grandson, James West (15).

Neal Matheson had a distinguished career in the field of technology and innovation. He graduated from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in 1969 with a B.S. in Applied Science/Chemical Engineering. His professional journey began with Procter & Gamble, where he spent 25 years before joining Johnson & Johnson in 1994. Neal's expertise and leadership led to his appointment as Chief Technology Officer at Johnson & Johnson's consumer health unit and later at Unilever, where he played a pivotal role in advancing science and technology initiatives.

Throughout his career, Neal was recognized for his contributions to product development and innovation, holding multiple patents that furthered advancements in R&D and process excellence. His work not only impacted the companies he served but also improved the lives of countless consumers.

Neal was known for his passion for science, his commitment to excellence, and his unwavering dedication to his family. He will be remembered for his kindness, intellect, and the profound impact he had on those around him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice to honor Neal's life and legacy.

As boys and young men, Neal and I spent many happy hours together in Edmundston and Baker Lake. Careers took us in very different directions but those memories have lasted throughout my life.
Thank you Roberta for keeping me up to date with all those Christmas cards. My sympathy to you and the girls.

Neal was my training supervisor at Procter and Gamble Product Development in Hamilton Ontario in 1971. I have fond memories of those days and also of Roberta and the girls. My wife and I stayed connected over the years through Christmas cards, letters and visits.

There are quite a few of us left in Unilever who worked with Neal in his time as our CTO. He was a great mentor for me and many others .. he really inspired us to be bold, and break the shackles on how we thought about new technology in consumer products. So sad to hear of his passing, I often still think of Neal and pose the question what would Neal do in this situation. It is a legacy I will continue as long as I lead science and technology !

Neal was one of the best CTOs I´ve ever worked with. He cut out the bull and got to the great stuff ! So sad to see this. He´ll be forever remembered for his leadership and technical knowledge.
