James Howard Trotter, Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 76 on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Born on June 25, 1946, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Howard was the cherished son of James H., Sr. and Virginia Trotter.

A proud Lake Charles native, Howard attended Lake Charles High School and continued his education at McNeese State University. He was a dedicated member of the National Rifle Association and passionately pursued shooting sports throughout his life.

Howard's entrepreneurial spirit and love for music led him to establish Sylvan Sound Service, which later evolved into Sylvan Special Systems under his leadership as president. His generosity and compassion for animals were evident in his founding of the Hobo Hotel, a safe haven for abandoned cats.

In his free time, Howard enjoyed spending time on the river, boating, and caring for his cherished feline companions. His zest for life and love for his family were ever-present in his actions and words.

Howard is survived by his loving daughter, Stacy Lynn Long, his two precious grandchildren, Laykyn Nicole Long of Florida and Landon James Pitzer of Lake Charles, LA, and his three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, James H., Sr. and Virginia Trotter.

A Memorial Service in honor of Howard's life will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Friends and family are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 PM until the commencement of the service at 5:00 PM. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hobo Hotel for Cats & Kittens, 650 E. School St., Lake Charles, LA 70607.

I met Howard in 1964 right before he graduated high school. I later on became good friends with him when he and Mr. Sylvan had the Stereo Shop on Common street. I ended up working part time with him and when I was laid off from Firestone plant, I went to work full time for him. We had a lot of fun together going to the gun range and he introduced me into collecting pistols of which I still do. He was a very generous person and got along with everybody. We enjoyed the same music together had many laughs with the many friends that would stop by just to chat or to buy some new stereo equipment and get the latest speakers or amps available. I will surely miss him. To his family of whom I met along the way, he was a dear friend and I am sure you all miss him. I offer you peace in this time of grief.

To the family of Howard. He was such a kind and generous man. I had met him through music and later was privileged to befriend and cook for him for several years. I know he will be missed.

Stacy & Sylvan Company Employees,
I have to say I had the pleasure of knowing Howard from a young age as we were raised on Kirkman & Division St.together.
Seeing Howard. stopping to speak with me as he headed to work or ending a night of devotion taking care of his animals. Howard was a very smart individual. in addition to his big heart.
I will miss our conversations .
Rest on Peace My Friend.
Prayers to All,
Connie Corley
