Jack Francis Coffin

Coffin, John Francis "Jack", born September 8, 1935, Halifax Nova Scotia. It is with sadness that we share the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and brother. Jack was the son of John and Annie (Dooley) Coffin. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marian (MacKinnon); son, Patrick and his wife Mariella (Rocha), and their children, Mariclare and Sophia in Orange County, CA; daughter, Cindy and her husband Wade Were and their children, Jack Jr. and Mary in Dartmouth, his only brother Bernard, a permanent deacon in the Archdiocese of Halifax/Yarmouth. Jack is pre-deceased by his twin sons, Scott and Robert, and his granddaughter, Naomi Rose. Jack went to St. Pat's High School and was employed for 38 years by Employment Insurance Commission becoming Canada Manpower and Immigration Department. Jack was an avid bowler and golfer who, in 1980, became the president of Oakfield Golf and Country Club where he was a long-standing member (40 + years). In 1989, he was elected president of the Nova Scotia Golf Association and held several director positions over the years. A stickler for the rules of the game, Jack was a volunteer course marshal for four years at Grandview Golf and Country Club. A dedicated chauffeur for his family and friends, he was always available to do pick-ups and drop-offs. Active at Saint Benedict Parish in Halifax, Jack wore his Catholic faith quietly, especially in service to others. He had additionally been good friends with Bill W. for over 38 years. His funeral arrangements have been attended to by J.A. Snow Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive. Visitation will occur Wednesday, May 2nd from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. The Funeral Mass will take place in Saint Benedict Church, 45 Radcliffe Drive in Halifax on Thursday, May 3rd at 10:00 am, with Father Simon Lobo, CC, officiating. He believed children were a gift, and would joke that he wished he had had his grandchildren first.
