Jack Gahan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 3, 2015.
Jack Henry Gahan

1930 ~ 2015

Jack left us to be with his wife Mary, after a short battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully January 31st, 2015 at his home with his family by his side.

Jack was born December 6, 1930 in Tacoma, WA and later moved to Seattle in 1945. He graduated from Seattle Preparatory School in 1949 and Seattle University in 1953. While attending Seattle University, he was the President (Duke) of the Intercollegiate Knights (I.K.). He spent two years in the army stationed in Japan as a traveling auditor and Chaplain Assistant. Jack was retired from The Seattle Times after working 39 years as the Circulation and Advertising Supplement Service Manager.

He was an active member of Assumption Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister, Usher, and grade school basketball coach. He loved sailing, gardening, fishing, and watching basketball games. He frequently attended multiple games in a day. Jack particularly enjoyed watching his 7 children follow in his wife's shoes by being actively involved with coaching and scouting programs. He had a special love for daily mass to begin his "daily chores".

Jack was married to Mary Berggren for 41 years until her passing in 1998. He is survived by his 7 children, Jodi Michelman, James (Sandy), Jana (Mike), Jeff (Annette), Jay (Kim), Joe (Bebelyn), and Jill (Todd), sisters Gerry and Jane, brother Larry, 17 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren plus one on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his family, he also had a special love for his dogs Mary, Myra and Pebbles.

He was an amazing man who provided endless love and support to his family and he will remain forever in our hearts.

I can't believe that another year has gone by. I still think of Jack although I don't live in the neighborhood anymore. I would love to hear from any of his children to know what is going on in the family. They were all great neighbors. [email protected] Pat Porter

I can't believe that it has been 8 years since Jack died. He was a wonderful father to his children and granddad to all his grandchildren. He was a very special person and the greatest neighbor you would want to know. I moved from my home 15 months ago but I still think of the neighborhood and the people that I knew. Blessings to all his children and grandchildren.

Thank you to everyone who not just attended dads funeral, but also to all who kept dad in their hearts. It was amazing to see so many people who attended and from the bottom of our hearts we thank you. Dad was a special man and we are lucky to call him dad. Again, thank you to the Harvey's for being so special and compassionate during this time, you made the process painless for us and dad looked fabulous! God bless everyone and next time you see a sailboat on the water, give a quick thought and think about dad cruising with the wind!

Beautiful service today for such a wonderful man. Mr. Gahan was a great friend to three generations of the Barnes family. My most favorite person to stand next to and sit by while watching my Devynn and my Jessica play basketball, soccer and track. I can still hear him yell "Atta way Devynn!" even before she made it on the court. Not many people in this world like Mr. Gahan, you will truly be missed!

Love, hugs and prayers to the entire Gahan family.

Sympathy and prayers to the family. Jack & Mary were good friends of my late parents, Marv & Jacquie Berge and I'm sure they were there to help welcome him home.

To the Gahan Family,
Our sympathies are with you. Mr. Gahan was amazing. When our Dad, Joe Kelly, had dementia, Mr. Gahan was one of his few friends that would always reach out to him, visit, say hello. It meant a tremendous amount to our family.
He was a great friend.
