Jack Rice Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 23 to May 24, 2023.
Jack Rice was a self-described 'lucky guy'. Born in Providence, Rhode Island to Olga Siena and Mills Murphy Rice, the second of four children, a US Marine who proudly served from February of 1951 to December of 1953 including time in combat in Korea, and a career salesman, Jack was quick with a joke and a smile. Always curious, he could hone in on something interesting to talk about to anyone. Long ago he wrote about "living a wonderful life so no one should be sad at my passing. My wonderful loving wife and children have been the best thing that happened" and he urged us to "Make every day count!! Be kind!" Jack passed away at age 90 surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Jack married college sweetheart Janet Elizabeth Reed and together they raised a loving family. Jack enjoyed a decent cigar, pithy conversations, working hard in the yard at each cherished home, and a gratifying round of golf. Many happy memories were had sliding down the hill through the snowy woods, chasing runaway dogs, and climbing the hollow tree. He was known to shop for good shoes, break a coffee mug for 25 cents, salt his hamburgers, and generally amuse his nine grandchildren. Nothing mattered more to him than his family and a hearty laugh.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, brother Ron, and sister Patti. He leaves behind wife Janet, daughters Gwen Williams, Wendy Jomant, and Gretchen Casey (and beloved son-in-law Phillip Casey), nine grandchildren; Kevin (Andrea) Jomant, Jackson (Denise Miller) Williams, Kyle Jomant, Claire Williams, Meghan (Philip) Thornburgh, Erin (Juan) Casey-Gonzalez, Bailey Williams, Abbey (Alex) DeGroot, Brian Casey, great-grandchildren Audrey Jomant, Luke Jomant, Logan Jomant, Colette Jomant Santana, Fiona Thornburgh, Wyatt Williams, Nora Williams, Jack Thornburgh, brother Bob Rice, and sister-in-law Rosemary Rice.

He will be missed. Private services. In lieu of flowers, a gift can be made to the charity of your choice.
