James S. (Duckhead) Adams, Sr.

AGE: 79 • New Gretna

James S. Adams, Sr., (Duckhead), 79, of New Gretna, passed away, Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, in Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, Ft. Pierce, FL. He was born in Tuckerton, N.J., and was a lifelong area resident. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, and was recognized as a POW. Jim's life passion was to assist those who served our country. Jimmy was one of the original members of VFW 10554 and his name is on the original charter, was Commander of the VFW, currently Jr. Vice Commander, also the Service Officer for the VFW for many years. He was Commander of the Am Vets a few times, and was one of the first Commanders (with a ceiling tile with his name on it), was a Finance Officer, and Judge Advocate for American Legion Post 40, was currently Chaplain, and held other district offices for District 11 VFW, Lifetime Member of American Legion Post 358, VFW 8058, and Am Vets Post 15, also member of DAV and FOP. He was Captain of the Burlington County Fire Police, was a Life Member and Vice President of the New Gretna Vol. Fire Co., Retired from the NJDOT as a Regional Supervisor in 1972.

He is survived by Helen C. Adams, mother of his 3 sons, his wife, Peggy, sons, Ben Adams and wife Joan, Bass River, N.J., James Adams, Little Egg Harbor, N.J., and Ricky Adams and wife Bonnie, Bass River, N.J., sister, Irene Floyd, Kearny, N.J., grandchildren, Ben, Doug, Jim, Alicia, Kristine, Justin, and Jordan, and great-grandchildren, Alexis, Matthew, Brandon, JC Jr., Brielle, and Justin Jacob.

A Viewing will be held Monday, October 24, from 7-9 P.M., and Tuesday, October 25, from 10-11 A.M., with a service at 11 A.M., at Wood Funeral Home, 134 East Main St., Tuckerton, N.J. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Tuckerton, N.J.
