CAMANCHE — James A. Bark, 73, of Camanche, died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at his home. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 4, 2008, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche, with the Rev. Linda Keeter Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the church with a Rose Croix service concluding the visitation. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. James Allen Bark was born on Sept. 10, 1934, in Clinton, the son of Allen and Dorothy (Stratton) Bark. He was raised in South Clinton and was very proud of his South Clinton heritage. He was a 1952 graduate of Clinton High School. He married Geraldine Edens on June 7, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clinton. Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1952-1955. Jim was a millwright with Local 2158 for over 45 years. He owned and operated the Bark Apartments and also owned and operated the Bark Confectionary in the mid-1970s. Jim was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Camanche, Camanche Masonic Lodge #60, Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies, Eastern Star, the Clinton Moose Lodge, the Camanche VFW, was active with the Democratic Party, and was former President of the Clinton Labor Congress, and a long time executive member of Local 2158. Jim enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren’s events. He enjoyed boxing and was the Iowa Golden Glove Champion and the Great Lakes Naval Boxing Champion. Jim was an inspiration to his entire family. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 55 years: Geraldine “Gerri” of Camanche; two sons: Daniel (Dona) Bark of DeWitt, Iowa, and Steve (Toni) Bark of Camanche, Iowa; three daughters: Kristi (Jeff) Naftzger of Clinton, Iowa, Karlee (Dr. Gary) Low of Camanche, and Kelly (Jeff) Everhart of Camanche, Iowa; 15 grandchildren: Brandon Webb, Jim Bark, Joe Webb, Shane Bark, Aurdra (Bark) Adams, Chelsea (Bark) Grell, Charlotte Geraldine Low, Kyle Low, Elyce Bark, Blake Bark, Tiana Bark, Alexandria Everhart, Brittney Everhart, Jesse Everhart, V, and Markee Low; and four great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his grandfather Frank Bark, two brothers, and two sisters. Memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Genesis Hospice.
