James Norman Belk

James Norman Belk was born March 7, 1938, to J.F. and Artie Belk in Cushing, Texas. He lived there until he drew his last breath and walked home on Friday, August 21, 2015. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1956 and attended business college and Stephen F. Austin State University for a short time before serving in the U.S. Army for two years which included a tour of duty in Berlin, Germany, guarding the wall between East and West Germany. He was a member of the Cushing Lions Club, a member of the Cushing ISD Board of Trustees, and a member of the Cushing Volunteer Ambulance and Fire Department. He was an avid outdoorsman and passed his love for hunting and fishing along to many. Another favorite past time was walking and jogging the Lanana Creek Trail. Mr. Belk was also a member of the McKnight Congregational Methodist Church, and his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ enabled him to live out his remaining years with gratitude after our beloved oak tree shattered our world and his body. He loved his family and fought valiantly many times to be able to see them one more time. He adored them, and they loved him unconditionally. He was preceded in death by his parents and Godparents Bug and Loucile Johnson. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Deanna and Dani Egan of Cushing, Texas, son Brian Belk of Cushing, Texas, grandsons Daric and Dedan Egan of Cushing, Texas, brother and sister-in-law Joe and Marie Belk of Huntington, Texas, niece Denise Fredericks and husband Bob of Cushing, Texas, nephew Craig Belk and wife Kim of Houston, Texas, and a whole host of great nephews and nieces. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, August 24. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Dickie Allen Funeral Home with graveside services immediately following at Cushing Cemetery.
