Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 2, 2015.
James P. Brady, of Toms River, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday September 30, 2015. Jim was born on June 20, 1923 in Manhattan where he spent his early childhood before moving to Rockaway Beach, Queens in the mid 1930's with his parents, four brothers and three sisters. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters until his discharge in 1946. Jim returned to his beloved Rockaway where he was a NYC lifeguard before and after the war. In 1948 he married the love of his life, Irma Ostel, known to all as Billie. In 1947 he joined the family business as an NYC Police Officer. Both of Jim's parents, his uncle and two of his brothers were also members of the NYPD. His assignments included several Manhattan precincts, but he spent most of his career in the Emergency Services Division where he earned several commendations for bravery, and was a member of the NYPD Honor Legion before retiring as a Lieutenant in 1974. Jim and Billie moved to Toms River in 1980 where he enjoyed his extensive music collection and drumming. For many years he voluntarily provided music for many organizations in the area.

Surviving Jim are his loving wife Billie, their son James and his wife Sherry, daughter Diane and her husband Mel Phillips, daughter Elizabeth Brady, daughter Patricia and her husband Dr. Christopher Daly, and daughter Kathleen Brady. Also surviving Jim are four grandchildren, Carolyn, Erin, Mary Ellen and James, and five great grandchildren, Allison, Emily, Max, Joseph, and Nina.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd Toms River NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at St Joseph's Church 685 Hooper Ave Toms River NJ. Interment will follow at the New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. Our deepest condolences to Aunt Bilie and to alll of the Brady family. I'll always remember his high energy. Great intellect and sense of humor. Even though I was young the stories of Plays written and performed by Jim and Uncle Terry at the Married Men's would have everyone laughing with joy. He will be sorely missed. Love and blessings to all.Georganne Holmes Byrne and Family
