James Doak "Jim" Wilson, 88, retired employee of Monsanto and resident of Sowell Mill Pike, died Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at South Gate Church of Christ with Brian Gregory and Joe Macer officiating. Burial will follow in McCains Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 at South Gate Church of Christ. Two of his grandsons, Sam Quirk and Jeff Wilson will lead congregational singing. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. It is suggested that memorials be made to South Gate Church of Christ Building Fund, 2700 Pulaski Highway, Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born July 7, 1926 in Columbia, he was the son of the late Ralph Lee Wilson, Sr. and Jennie Mai Scott Wilson. On August 27, 1944, he married the former Martha Alice Stone who preceded him in death on August 23, 2014. Mr. Wilson operated Wilson's Floor Sanding Service for over ten years and Wilson Antique Shop. He enjoyed farming. He was a charter member and Elder of Eastside Church of Christ which changed to South Gate Church of Christ with the move to their new building on Pulaski Pike. Survivors include his daughter, Anna Wilson (Jimmy) Quirk of Columbia; sons, Tom (Pam) Wilson and Jerry Doak (Peggy) Wilson, both of Columbia; grandchildren, Kasey (Barry) Cross, Kristy Wilson, Jeffrey Doak (Mary Beth) Wilson, Beth Ann Wilson, Tommy Wilson, Sam Quirk; great grandchildren, Brett Wilson, Rachel Cross, Kate Cross, Morgan Wilson, Julia Wilson, Sarah Grace Cross, Abbey Wilson; and caregivers, Carolyn Curry and Tracy Mosley. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bradley Wilson Quirk and brother, Ralph Lee Wilson, Jr. Active pallbearers will be Jeffrey Doak Wilson, Tommy Wilson, Sam Quirk, Barry Cross, Brett Wilson, and Howard Stone. Honorary pallbearers will include Bill & Peggy Jones, Donnie & Sharon Davis, James Deen, Carolyn Curry, Tracy Mosley, Elders and Deacons of South Gate Church of Christ, and retired employees of Monsanto.
