He was the funniest, loving and sarcastic man I ever met. An auctioneer extraordinaire for the Boys and Girls club in Southport Writer with a talent all his own. Deeply missed

Just so sad ...
Known him growing up in NYC ,our families were friends ...His older brother wrote Putney Swope as an ode to my Father...
He was my older brother's age but there was no age when it came to Jim
His brains and his humor were unmatched
I saw this obit and am in total shock!..Thought it was a joke !!
We had just been talking right before he passed..
He was planing another trip to LA to visit his nephew ...
I am so sad and have no more words , just heartache that he moved on ...you will be missed .xo

We were so saddened to learn of his passing. Our hearts are with you and his family.
My wife and I were honored to meet Jim, and delighted to learn (within minutes?) we were to call him "Uncle Jimmy."
Among our treasures from the time we knew him: our wedding and festivities, summer yard parties, his shared chapters from The Memoir, and his kind, patient advice and encouragement for two new playwrights.
We will miss him.
