James Eberhard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 13, 2025.
Lafayette - James Anthony "Jim" Eberhard, 61, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, after facing declining health over the past several years.

Jim was born in Lafayette on December 12, 1963, to Mahlon "Cookie" and Norma Jean (Wittenauer) Eberhard. A proud graduate of Central Catholic High School, Jim later earned an associate degree from Ivy Tech Community College.

For over 40 years, Jim dedicated himself to his work in central receiving at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. He was a valued and respected member of the team until his health necessitated his retirement.

Jim's greatest joy came from spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. He particularly enjoyed attending his nieces' and nephews' sporting events, always cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm.

Jim is survived by his loving mother, Norma Jean Eberhard, and his siblings: Bill Eberhard (wife Glenda; children Holly Eberhard, and Rachael (Jake) Rush, Rob Eberhard, (children Robbie and Emma Eberhard), Nancy Eberhard, and Mary Brost (husband Todd; children Anna (Travis) Galante, Ashley (Erich) Weiss, and Amelia Brost). He is also survived by three great-nieces: Addilynn Rush, Coralynn Rush, and Alice Galante, who brought joy to his life.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Mahlon "Cookie" Eberhard.

Services will be Saturday, January 18. Friends and family may call beginning at 9:30 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 am at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette. Internment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Springs at Lafayette and Southern Care Hospice for their loving care and support during Jim's decline.

Very sad to hear this. Jim always like to joke and tease when dropping off supplies to our department at the hospital. He was always kind and helpful at work. So very sorry for your family´s loss.

Jim had a heart for kindness, and a streak of decency that stretched a mile wide. Knew him from St L on, and remember him showing up unexpected one night as I lay in the hospital after surgery, a bag of McD´s in tow. That´s who he was. Reconnected several years ago, and I enjoyed in recent years catching up to the adult he´d become via video calls. My condolences to his family, whom he clearly loved very dearly.

Jim was such a good guy always appreciated his dedication to helping us get the supplies we needed and trying to understand what we really meant when we didn´t ask for the item by the storeroom name but what the nurses called it! Rest easy Jim!

So incredibly sorry for your loss! Jim was always so dependable in his deliveries and efforts at the hospital. He was always concerned for getting you whatever was needed before you were in dire need. He was always courteous and respectful in all he did, and he was so proud of his family's hospital history! Missed him from Day 1 after he left.
