James Linn Everroad, 74, North Vernon, passed away at 2:20 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Everroad worked for 32½ years as a welder at Arvin Industries in Columbus. He was affectionately known by his co-workers as "Boogie." He was a member of First United Methodist Church in North Vernon and a 1954 graduate of Clifford High School. He enjoyed NASCAR and sprint car racing, softball and basketball, working in his yard and gardening, being a coach for Lassie League and Scipio Youth and spending time with his family and his dog, Sadie.
Born May 14, 1936, in Hope, he was the son of Roy and Mary Linn Everroad, both of whom preceded him in death. He married his first wife, Alberta L "Bobbie" Stout, on Nov. 17, 1956, and she preceded him in death April 22, 1986. He married his second wife, Shirley Johnston Fravel, on Nov. 19, 1988, in Elizabethtown, and she survives in North Vernon.
Other survivors include one son, Jeff (Jeanie) Everroad, Seymour; five daughters, Cheryl (Jerry) Wilson, North Vernon, Becky (Larry) Blevins and Kim (Lloyd) Miller, both of Columbus, Tamra (Philip) Lambert, Flower Mound, Texas, and Melissa (Nathan) Smurdon, Indianapolis; one brother, Donald (Phyllis) Everroad, Columbus; a brother-in-law, Bob (Mary) Johnston, Leesburg, Fla.; one sister, Pauline (Gary) McBride, Columbus; a sister-in-law, Sue (John) Gifford, Cincinnati; 13 grandchildren, Andy (Saranda) Blevins, Amy Blevins and her fiancé Ryan Loudermilch, Jeffrey Everroad, Kristina Everroad, Brett (Natalie) Schryer, Wendy Wilson, Amie Miller, Arika Tulloch, Alyssa Miller, Tyler Miller, Elaine Lambert, Lance Lambert and Luke Lambert; and five great-grandchildren, Caleb Schryer, Kassidy Schryer, Makayla Schryer, Peyton Napier and Dillon Napier.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Eric Schryer and Noah Smurdon, and five brothers, Arthur, Charles, Robert, Maurice and Joe Everroad.
The Rev. Marvin Sweet and the Rev. Joe Wyatt will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home, North Vernon. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 1 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First United Methodist Church in North Vernon, the American Heart Association or Community Health Work Hospice Fund in memory of Noah Smurdon.
