James Fleming Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 24, 2009.
Quincy rancher and cowboy James C. Fleming tragically passed from this life from injuries incurred in a motorcycle accident, Thursday evening, September 24th, 2009. Born September 6th, 1944 to the late Walter and Elizabeth (Boswell) Fleming in Santa Monica, California he was raised and educated in Three Rivers, CA, graduating from High School as a member of the "Class of 1962". He went on to attend the University of California at Santa Barbara for a short period of time before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam War. Upon his discharge and return home he returned to college at San Francisco State where he obtained his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Sociology. Jim had a successful career in the computer industry traveling throughout the United States and internationally as a sales manager. One who has always yearned for the freedom of the outdoors, Jim began a second career as a rancher in the Northeastern California mountain community of Quincy ten years ago, moving here from Scotts Valley, CA where he had resided for some seven years prior. Following a successful match through a local dating service Jim met his soul mate and love of his life, Virginia Lynn and the two were united in matrimony on July 11th, 1992 in Atherton, CA. Jim was a Harley Davidson aficionado who found great solace in touring the countryside on his bike and was a longtime member of the Motorcycle Veterans of Viet Nam, Reno and Watsonville Chapters. As a staunch supporter of AA he traveled extensively helping others with their addiction. He enjoyed running his ranch and working with the horses, was a champion team roper, as well as a former marathon runner. He also liked to spend time deep sea fishing and snow skiing where he is a former member of the Colorado Ski Patrol. In passing Jim leaves his loving wife for the past seventeen years; Virginia Lynn Fleming of Quincy, CA, sons; Zachery C. Fleming of Brooklyn, New York, Jim Kane of Brooklyn, New York, daughters; Megan McGowan of Toledo, Ohio, Vanessa and her husband James Scott of Abilene, Kansas, brother; Stephen and his wife Beth Fleming of Arroyo Grande, CA and his precious grandson Cassidy. A private celebration of Jim's life will take place at a later date. An opportunity to express your condolences to the family along with signing the memorial guest register is available online at www.fehrmanmortuary.com.
