James Foote Obituary
Jim was born in Superior, Wisconsin in 1953 to James L and Dessa (Potter) Foote. A graduate from Northwestern High School, Jim went on to graduate with a BS from the University of Wisconsin - Superior. Later he moved to Chicago to attend John Marshall Law School and earned a Juris Doctorate degree.
Jim had a long and successful career as a railroad executive that started at a young age with the Soo Line working alongside his father, grandfather, and uncles in Superior, WI. He then followed his dreams, moved to Chicago, and would go on to hold senior leadership positions at Chicago and North Western, Canadian National, and retired as CEO of the CSX railroad in 2022.
Jim was engaging in conversation, could tell a good story, guide a decision, and earn the ongoing respect of friends and colleagues throughout his life, whether on the golf course or in the boardroom.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and loved watching sports, rooting on his favorite teams. He enjoyed the camaraderie playing golf and unwinding at the end of each day catching up with family and friends. He loved adventure, reading, playing games, and entertaining. He was a confidant, coach, do-it-yourselfer around the house, a down-to earth and kind man.
Jim was a father, grandfather, brother, son, and dear friend to many. He was loved deeply; he will be profoundly missed. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who love him.
Jim is survived by his sons Benjamin (Cortney) Foote, Lincoln Savage-Foote, grandchildren Amelia, Aaron, Adam and Emmett Foote, sister Margaret (Maggie) Foote, aunt Sally Christman, and many cousins. Jim is preceded in death by his parents James L and Dessa (Potter) Foote and a son, Jason Foote.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to express sympathy consider a memorial donation to one of the causes Jim supported and was so caring about.

A memorial service will be determined later for Jim's family, friends, and colleagues to come together and celebrate his life.

Remembering that Jim helped in rescuing a family from a burning home when he was a young man in northern Wisconsin. It was an heroic effort on his part!
I worked with him for a short time and knew his father.
Just learned of his passing, which is very sad to me, as Jim was far too young.

I worked with jim on the Chicago and Northwestern RR in north lake, Illinois at Proviso Hump yard. He was a great teacher and co worker. Rest in peace my friend.
