James J. Gabriel

James J. Gabriel, 92, of 424 Waldo St. passed away the morning of Oct. 28, 2009, at Autumn Hills Care Center, Warren, Ohio.He was born Dec. 17, 1916, in New Castle, a son of the late Esa and Mary George Gabriel.He was married to the former Clara Ricciuti for 49 years. She preceded him in death.Mr. Gabriel retired as a superintendent at the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, where he had worked for 45 years.He was an Army veteran, serving in World War II.He was a member of St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church.James was a member of the American Legion and past commander of Post 343, past district commander for Lawrence, Butler and Beaver counties and past commander of Post 776.He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Moosally of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, John F. Gabriel of New Castle; four sisters, Mary Gabriel and Katherine Mendell of New Castle, Jean Carna of Hillsville and Delores Bjelland of San Francisco, Calif.; three grandchildren, Dr. Robert Moosally Jr. and his wife, Heather, Michelle Moosally and her husband, Fabrizio Volterra, and Alexandra Moosally; and five great-grandchildren, Robert Moosally III, Gregory Moosally, Isabella Moosally, Allesandro Volterra and Matteo Volterra.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Alexander Gabriel; a sister, Rose Thorke; and a brother, Saaid Gabriel Katribe.Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. A service of incense will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Kevin Beaton of St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church will officiate.
