James Goble Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 17, 2017.
James Ray Goble, 83, of Charlotte, passed away on Sunday, October 15 at his home. Ray was born in Iredell County on January 31, 1934 to James Morris Goble and Lena Hoke Goble.

A devoted husband to his beautiful bride Judy, Ray vowed to love, cherish and protect her, and he did that for 57 years. Ray was a dedicated family man throughout his life, and his family never doubted his love for them. He also had a passion for good food, travel and nice cars.

Ray spent two years serving his country stateside in the US Army as a typist; no one else in his platoon could type! He was a graduate of Kings Business College and had a 42 year career as an office manager with Genuine Parts Company, where he was a loyal and dependable friend to many. He was a member at Covenant United Methodist Church for 44 years, where he served his Lord in many capacities.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vance Goble; sisters, Lucille Reese and Lois Karn. He is survived by his wife Judy of the home; children, Cheryl (Bryan) Freeman and Brian (Leigh) Goble; grandchildren, Lauren and Derek Freeman, Austin and Anna Goble; and sister, Lorene Ramsey.

Interment will take place on Friday, October 20 at 11:00am at Mt Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery; 106 Mt. Hermon Road, Statesville, NC. A Memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 21 at 12:00pm at Covenant United Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC; Reverend Elise Kennedy to officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior at 11:00am. Offer condolences through forestlawnwest.com

The family would like to express their gratitude to many who assisted in Ray's care throughout his illness: the caregivers from Hospice of Gaston County, and the loving caregivers from Home Instead; especially our dear Tonya Hope. They also appreciate the many visits, calls, delicious food, cards, and prayers from family and friends. Memorials may be made to Covenant United Methodist Church.

I'm very sorry to hear about Ray's passing. After college, Ray was my first boss. 33 years have passed and I still consider Ray my favorite boss. In addition to challenging me, encouraging me, and teaching me, he befriended me. While Ray was a dedicated and valued employee at NAPA, it was obvious how proud he was of his family and that family came first. You were fortunate to have such a fine man as part of your lives. I'm praying for your comfort at this difficult time.

Ray was a true friend and mentor to me when I went to work with Napa. He & I would talk about many things for long periods of time. We both had our "I do not think that is right" moments. I enjoyed seeing him a few times at the Ole Timers. He is a man I was privileged to say was my friend. My prayers to Judy and his family, as well as his long time Napa friends, he will surely be missed.
