It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Jim peacefully at home on Friday, April 26th, 2013 at the age of 83. Beloved and devoted husband of Betty (deceased) for 57 years; loving father of Lawrence (Claire), Ronald, Kevin (Siroun), Russell (Sheilah) and Mary Jane (Robert Thomas); fond grandfather of Courtnay, Cameron, Philip, Christine, Jonathan, Brendan, Trevor, Jayanti, Eric, Jedediah, Matthew, Katherine and Nathaniel; and cherished brother of Alice, Gerald, Winnie, Ronald, Hugh, Cecil and Stanley. He is predeceased by his parents Harold and Mary, his sister Phyllis and his brother Bill. He will be missed by his family, his many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as his many friends. Born and raised on a farm near Maryfield, Saskatchewan, Jim was the eldest son in a large family, learning responsibility and self-reliance at an early age. This upbringing led to a distinguished career in the Royal Canadian Air Force and many years of dedicated community service. His family will be forever grateful for the far-reaching family history he left behind during decades of genealogy research. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the wonderful staff of the Garry J. Armstrong Long Term Care Home in Ottawa for their kind and loving care. Friends are invited to pay their respects at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore Drive and Baseline Road), Nepean, on Sunday, April 28th, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 930 Watson Street, Ottawa on Monday, April 29th, 2013 at 11:00 AM with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Liver Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa would be welcomed by the family.
