James Hesketh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 31, 2012.
James Hesketh was born in Manchester, England on January 10, 1922 and passed away peacefully on January 30 at Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock B.C. Jim joined the Royal Air Force at the age of 17 and was soon transferred to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan as a mechanic on Spitfires. It was in Moose Jaw that he met his wife, Nellie (nee Patterson). During World War II Jim and Nellie returned to England and had two sons, Jim and Steve. In 1952 the family moved to Canada and settled in East Vancouver, while there they had four more sons; Robin, Ted, Terry and Dan. Jim was employed with Ault & Wiborg printing inks which later became BASF Inmont. He retired in 1987 as the western regional manager. In 1967 Jim and his family moved to White Rock. Jim's retirement included; daily walks along the White Rock waterfront, fishing trips to Campbell River and many wonderful times with his six sons and their families. Jim is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nellie and his six sons; Jim (Connie) from Campbell River, Steve (Jo-ann) from Sydney, Robin (Nardene) from Langley, Ted from Steveston, Terry (Bonnie) from Langley and Dan (Bonita) from Birch Bay. He will be missed by his grandchildren; Rob, Lee, Sadie, Michael, Ryan, Taryn, Camille, Jonathan, Krista, Jeff, Martell and Trevor and great-grandchildren; Wyatt, Roddie-Lee, Hannah, Quade, Adam, Chantelle, Izzy and Gabi. The Hesketh family would like to thank the many friends for their encouragement and support over the past three weeks while Jim valiantly battled lung cancer. The Hesketh family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the sixth floor of the Peace Arch Hospital for their understanding, patience and dedication. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation, 15521 Russell Avenue, White Rock, B. C. V4B 2R4. The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 4th @ 11 am at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey, B C.

Jim and Nellie were the first to give us a very warm welcome when we first moved to White Rock. They were our favourite neighbours. My sincerest condolences to Nellie and family. May God bless them in this difficult time. We will always remember a caring and generous gentleman.

Our condolences to Nellie and family. Mr. Hesketh was a very friendly, out-going man and what a legacy he leaves behind, a large loving family and so many good memories.
We were made very welcome in the Hesketh home in White Rock when Jim and Connie were married (almost 29 years ago!).
A big hug for Nellie from us. Peter and Lorna

All my condolences to Auntie Nellie and all the family on the loss of Uncle Jim. He was a great uncle and welcomed me to his family on my vists to Canada. He took time out to show me around and to share his love of Canada with me. I fell in love with Canada, due in no small part to his wonderful company and warm personality. Uncle Jim was my mother's 'little brother' and she always had a special place in her heart for him even though they were far apart. She shared many stories of their growing up together and it was evident that he had charm and charisma from an early age.
With love
Anne

Fondest memories of a very dear Uncle. We will never forget our two wonderful stays with Jimmy and Nellie in White Rock in 2005 and 2006. Jimmy was a very special person and we will miss him very much.

Condolences on the death of a fine Gentleman, I worked with Jim for almost 30 years and can say that while many people suddenly become wonderful people on death, Jim managed it in his lifetime. Not that it was always a bed of roses, we had the occasional disagreement as happens in real life.
