James Hightower Obituary

Services for James Hendricks Hightower, 90, of Marshall, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshall with Father John Himes officiating. Interment will follow in Colonial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan-Heaster Funeral Home. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Hightower died March 21, 2006, in Marshall. He was born to Francis and Kate Hightower on June 8, 1915, in Marshall. Mr. Hightower was a graduate of Marshall public schools and attended the College of Marshall, Butler University, Duke University, the American Institute of Banking and the School of Banking of the South at LSU. He also attended the National Trust School of Evanston, Ill. Mr. Hightower was employed by First National Bank of Marshall and retired as Executive Vice President after 41 years of service. He served for five years in World War II in the Army Finance Corps and for two years in the Korean War. He was a member of the Vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church of Marshall and Past Senior Warden and was a past member of the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Hightower was married to Anna Abney Hightower on Nov. 13, 1942, in Marshall. She preceded him in death Jan. 13, 1988. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Agnes Hendrix; and close friend, Mary I. Harkins. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Kyle Bennett of Austin; grandsons, Kevin Bennett and Logan Bennett of Austin; nieces and nephews, Anita Young, Mac Abney, Barbara Truelove, Bill Abney, Lynn Lomax and Kackie Nutt; brother-in-law, Ruben Abney; cousins, James L. Hightower and Betty Hightower. Pallbearers will be Mac Abney, Bill Abney, George (Scooter) Young, Adam Adair, Keith Bennett and Robby Adair. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Lake Littlejohn, Dr. George Bennett, Art Dymond, Bill Jones and Ruben Abney. Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church of Marshall, 106 N. Grove, Marshall, Texas 75670. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and residents of Reunion Inn, and to special friends Doris Grimes and Mary Jane Crissey.
