James V. "Jim" Sullivan Jr. (1946-2024): A Life Well-Lived

James V. "Jim" Sullivan Jr., a man of many hats - son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great uncle, friend, and a decorated veteran, bid his final adieu on January 30th, 2024. Born in Pittsburgh, PA to James V. and Mary G. Sullivan, Jim's journey came to a peaceful close at his beloved home on Fox Island, WA. with his wife by his side.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his wife Joanne

(Scanlin) Sullivan, his children Ryan (Jen) and Gillian, and his granddaughter Quinn.

His siblings Paul (Karen), Ed, Mollie, Pat (Lauren), Kathleen (Jim), and John (Chelsea)

also mourn his loss, as do his nieces and nephews: Stacy (Hal), Suzanne (Jason),

Stephanie, Shannon (David), Brian, Sean (Courtney), Catherine, Claire, Jacqueline, and his grandnieces and nephew: Reagan, Sulli, Shaelyn, and Stella. He is also survived by the Scanlin family including twin nieces Erin and Allison, nephew John, and their mother April.

Jim was a valued member of multiple communities including Fox Island, Indian Wells, and Packwood. He was a man whose professional life in marketing and sales was marked by a personal touch that endeared him to his clients. Retirement did little to slow him down, as he remained an active participant in athletics and an ardent lover of the great outdoors. Whether it was captaining the Irish Wake on the Puget Sound or soaking in the tranquility of the family's mountain home, Jim embraced life with open arms.

A Bronze Star recipient from the Vietnam war, Jim's spirit of service extended beyond the battlefield. Throughout his life he was a steadfast volunteer at his church, the local fire department, various senior citizen organizations, and the booster program at Bellarmine Prep. His commitment to the community was unwavering.

One of the highlights of Jim's year was the annual St. Patrick's Day parade, a tradition he and his brother-in-law John Scanlin started over 25 years ago. The parade of family and friends was a lively procession along Fox Island roads, which culminated in a hearty meal of Irish stew and refreshments alternating between the Sullivan's and Scanlin's homes. It was a testament to Jim's love for family, friends, and good times.

A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held on Thursday, March 7 th . Mass will be at 3:00 p.m. with a reception and celebration of life to follow at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish, 7112 S.12 th St., Tacoma, WA. 98465 (253) 564-5185. All family and friends are welcome to join and share their memories of Jim.

Jim´s and my family lived in the same neighborhood in the 1950s and 1960s. I was a frequent visitor at his home. Jim was a man of great personal charm and warmth. He was always friendly and easy-going and had a vivacious spirit. His smile lit up the room. His warmth will live on in those he love. Memory eternal
