James (Jimmy) Dodd Jr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2025.
James Ernest Dodd Jr., a.k.a. "Jimmy," died unexpectedly on the morning of August 4, 2025.

He was born a military brat on August 3, 1959, in Riverside, California, to James Dodd Sr. and Christine Wright.

He played high school football for the Midwest City Bombers.

He served his country in the Navy, managed at Kinko's, and later worked at Half Price Books, among other jobs.

Jimmy had an eclectic taste in music and books. He enjoyed the sounds of The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, and Henry Mancini, and loved reading history, science fiction, and the poetry of E.E. Cummings. He also enjoyed watching Woody Allen films and Monty Python. He adored his little dog, Poop.

Those who knew Jimmy admired his artistic abilities. He could glance at an image and draw it perfectly.

Jimmy was a complicated man, not always easy to understand. As a child, he was a hero to his sister-protecting her from bullies while still pulling her hair. He once hid in her closet pretending to be a tiger, convinced her there were little people in the Hi-Fi switching records, and one year climbed onto the roof jingling bells over the bedroom windows to make his siblings believe Santa was coming. On another occasion, he gave his siblings chocolate-covered raisins, then told them they were actually ants-laughing while they spat them out.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Dodd, and his sister Verna Jean "Jeannie" Dodd. He is survived by his brother Roger Dodd of Yukon, his sister Pamela Dodd of Muskogee, nephews John and Jared Lindsey, and nieces Amanda and Amelia Lindsey.

Jimmy will be remembered for his sharp wit and contagious laughter.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Very sorry to hear this news of Jimmy's passing. All my memories of him are from 9th grade at Jarman Junior High, we had several classes together. His desk in each class were covered with superheroes from edge to edge. I always thought that would be his calling, but he told me a few years back that he was in retail. Prayers for all!

I am so very sorry.... I knew Jimmy at West Side, and he was so much fun. We moved in 72, but I never forgot him. He was part of my childhood...

We grew up in the same neighborhood and Jimmy just felt like part of the family. He was best friends with my brothers and my mom had a soft spot for Jimmy. While he was in the Navy we wrote letters back and forth. Jimmy was incredibly smart and loved to debate his ideas! Through the years we were occasionally able to chat and had interesting conversations. I will remember Jimmy and pray for his family for comfort in the days to come.
