James E. Morley, Jr. ("Jay"), 82, of Annapolis, MD, passed away on January 16, 2023 after a battle with Parkinson's.Jay was born on December 23, 1940 to J. Everett Morley & Helen F. Morley in Middletown, NY. He studied engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and later got his MS in accounting from Syracuse University. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, including in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. His last posting was the CO of the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Program Prep School in San Diego, CA. Jay retired as a Colonel in 1992 after 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth W. Morley, and their children Margaret (Jamie), of Phoenix, AZ, Scott (Nancy) of Albany, NY, Sarah (Charles) of Mahomet, IL, and James III (Libby) of Odenton, MD. He is also survived by one of his passions - grandkids - Charlie, George, Margaret, Owen, Mack, Kial, Lucas, and Presley; as well as his brothers Jan (April) and Joel (Susan). Jay's other passions were helicopters, rocks, trains, and his Harley Davidson - which was stolen by Parkinson's. He had an amazing career as a college administrator at Syracuse University, Rider College, at his alma mater, Rensselaer Polytechnic, as the Vice President for Finance and Administration, and as Senior Vice President at Cornell University. Following Cornell, he was the President and CEO of the National Association of College and University Business Officers in Washington, DC.Jay served on a number of boards, to include Emma Willard School; The Sage Colleges, and National Grange Mutual Insurance Company. Following retirement from NACUBO, he was a consultant on higher education and organizational capacity matters and was extremely proud of his work with the formation of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. Services and Celebrations will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, a gift may be made in his memory to one of the following: Brown School, 150 Corlear Ave Schenectady, NY 12304; Emma Willard School, 285 Pawling Ave, Troy, NY 12180; or Fisher House Foundation, Inc., 12300 Twinbrook Parkway, Rockville, MD 20852.

Dear Betsy and family,
I was so saddened to have our Christmas greeting returned recently and finding out of Jay's passing. I am so very sorry for your loss and hope that you all cherish the wonderful memories of him. I am so very saddened to hear of Jay's passing. I just received the news! Jay was an amazing and impactful Director of National Grange Mutual Insurance/Main Street America for many years. I enjoyed my time serving with him, and learned from him at every meeting. Betsy, my heart goes out to you, losing your lifelong love and companion.
