James Nunya Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2012.
Nunya, James
December 7, 1944 - Sept. 26, 2012
Born James Smith in Foxboro, North Carolina. Died in Los Angeles, California. As a young man James enlisted with the US Navy and saw action in the Vietnam Conflict while serving aboard a supercarrier, the USS Forrestal. James' lifelong love of music was quite evident: He was associated with record labels MCA, Motown and Def Jam, as well as his own label, Salsa Picante. In his later years he was a general agent with Golden State Mutual Life. Activism was a prominent part of his life. For the past 25 years, he was a powerful advocate in preserving the integrity of Echo Park's Semi-Tropic Spiritualist Tract. Survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Parisi; cherished sons, Todd, Ian & Ryan; adored daughter-in-law, Simone; treasured grandchildren, Najee, Italia, Samaria and Nina; and sisters, Ella and Marva.

Cheryl,

please accept my condolences for your loss - you picked out some great music for the ceremony and I was truly honored to play the trumpet for you and your family. I hope that the memories of your great man continue to give you comfort in the days ahead.
