James Scribner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 15 to Oct. 22, 2023.
Our dad passed away on August 8th, 2023. He was born in Eau Claire Wisconsin on June 3rd, 1945. His family moved to Seattle when he was 10 yrs. old. He graduated from Ballard High School.

After graduation, he joined the Navy, and was stationed overseas. Once home, he met Carole Craft, and they were married. They had two children, myself and my brother, Michael. The marriage was a short one, maybe four years.

When he was in his mid- twenties, he applied to the King County Police Department and became a corrections officer. He worked for the city over ten years. During that time, he met Janet Kieffer. They were married on April 11th, 1975, at St. John's Catholic Church. They travelled the world while they were together.

Once my dad quit working for the city, he became the proud owner of the Wee Three Tavern. If you have lived in Ballard and been around, you may have stopped by and had a beer or some of Jan's famous chili! They had a great bar menu.

Once the tavern closed, he became a travel agent, perfect choice for a world traveler.

He was also a grandpa to his two grandsons, Kyle and Josiah. Many long summer days and nights were spent enjoying grandpa and his wonderful wife, Jan's caring hospitality in their welcoming camper.

The last journey of Jim & Jan was moving to Mesa, AZ. They lived there for twenty years up until Jan's passing in February 2020.

I didn't know a lot about my dad, but he had a good heart and many friendships throughout his life. He will be missed. If you would like to share a story, please do.

We had yearly family vacations on the Oregon coast and that is one of my favorite places in the world!! I tried my first clam steamer on one of those trips.

I remember spending weekends at their house in Queen Anne. Having orange squash and brussel sprouts and watching free willy
