JAMES "JIM" MICHAEL, Sr.
Passed away peacefully, with his loving wife by his side, Saturday, November 11, 2017, in their Farrell, PA residence. He was 75. Jim was born in Sewickley, PA on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1941, the youngest son of Anna (Kropf) and Andrew E. Shuty. He grew up in McKees Rocks, PA and graduated from North Allegheny High School. He attended the University of South Dakota on a baseball scholarship and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA. Jim was the owner-operator of two surveying companies, Shuty Surveyors and Associates, Allegheny County, PA, and Northern Surveyors, Butler County, PA. Shuty Surveyors' numerous projects included, bridges, interstate highway construction, UPMC hospitals, power plants, Greater Pittsburgh Airport construction, and the coal industry in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. However, the main thrust of his company was subdivision and land development. While Jim lived in Slippery Rock, PA, he devoted his time to the baseball programs as coach and manager, and he was on the Board of Directors of the mini-midget football program. He always enjoyed Pittsburgh professional sports teams. His passion, next to his wife, Janice, was the outdoors - hunting, fishing, admiring wildflowers, and identifying wildlife. Jim and his wife, Janice, have lived on Virginia's Eastern Shore for the last fifteen years where he continued his pursuit of hunting and fishing. He was quite successful in flounder fishing winning numerous tournaments, and at the age of 72 got the largest deer of his 60 year hunting career. He loved the Eastern Shore calling the people the friendliest he had ever met. In Jim's words – he had a great life. Besides his parents, preceding him in death were his first wife, the former Eleanor Tilp; and his brothers, Richard and Ed. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, the former Janice Bindas Morgenstern; and the children and grandchildren they shared, James, Katie, Ben, and Clarissa Shuty; Jeff and Kara Shuty, all of Slippery Rock; Jason, Lindsey and Eleanor Shuty, Columbia, South Carolina; Jason, Beth and Sadie Morgenstern, Camp Hill, PA; Chris, Christy, Rachel and Ryder Morgenstern, Dillsburg, PA. Jim was well loved and will be greatly missed. Friends will be received at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, PA 16057, on Saturday, November 18, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon when there will begin a Service of remembrance led by Pastor Bob Mathias. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association www.diabetes.org.

Jamie, Jeff, and Jason, I am sorry for the loss of your Dad. My deepest condolences. Although we lost touch over the years, I will never forget that he was an amazing Uncle to me in my younger years. He taught me many great things that made my life better, and continue to. I will still always think of him any time I am hunting, fishing, or just taking a hike in the woods. My sympathy and condolences to all.

Jamie, Jeff, and Jason, my deepest sympathies for the loss of your Dad. Although we lost touch over the years, he was an amazing uncle to me in my younger years and taught me many great things in life that made my life better, and continue to. I know he was just as great of a Dad also. I always do, and will, still think of him when I am hunting, fishing or just taking a hike in the woods. My condolences and prayers to all.
