James Sweet

James H. Sweet 1941-2012 BENNINGTON James H. Sweet, 70 a resident of Nelson Road died unexpectedly Monday evening February 6, 2012 at his home. Jim was born in Bennington on July 18, 1941, he was the son of Harold James and Sadie (Knapp) Sweet. He received his early education at the Forrest Ward Memorial School and then a parochial school in Union Springs, N.Y. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the US Navy, following his discharge from the Navy, he joined the Army Reserves, serving with the military for almost 30 years. He earned his LPN Degree while serving in the military. Jim married Wanda Robinson in Bennington on July 21, 1982. He had been employed at The Vermont Veterans Home, Price Chopper in the Seafood Department and Super Samples, for many years he owned and operated Sweets Rubbish Removal, eventually transferring the business to his son, Todd. Jim was a life member and past treasurer of Vietnam Veterans of America Vermont Chapter #601, American Legion of Rutland and the Salvation Army Church in Rutland, he was a former member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and traveling, he recently returned from a trip to the Caribbean which he thoroughly enjoyed. He leaves his wife Wanda Sweet of Bennington, sons James Sweet Jr. of Dixfield, Maine and Todd Sweet of Argyle, N.Y., daughters Kimilee Gile of Worchester, Mass., and Susan Sweet of Bennington, brothers Tom Sweet of Bennington and Peter Sweet of Pownal, sister Susan Taranto of Florida, grandchildren Logan, Nathan and Amber, cousins Dick France and Jack Sweet, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his former wife Sandra Sweet. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Friday February 10 at 11 a.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, burial with military honors will take place in the spring at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. when the family will be present.
