James Trump, Jr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 19, 2025.
Jim was born in Albuquerque, NM to James Kaisch Trump, Sr. and Ruth Marylyn Glasebrook Trump. He received a degree in Business and Accounting from The Anderson School of Business at the University of New Mexico. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. In 1982 Jim married Tina Marie Detrow and was married for 43 years. They had one wonderful son, Thomas-James (TJ) Kaisch Trump. Upon graduation, Jim followed in his father's footsteps and entered the banking world. This proved to be the foundation for his career as a real estate developer. As founder and President of Build New Mexico, and Union Development Corporation, Jim was instrumental in bringing new business to New Mexico as well as infusing new life in existing properties. Some of the projects he was most proud of were ABQ (Netflix) Studios, The Beach Waterpark, Top Golf and most recently, the revitalization of the De Anza Hotel complex. Many of his projects earned NAIOP and/or AGC awards.

Ever prideful of his professional achievements, nothing meant more to him than his son TJ, his accomplishments, and the man he has become. Jim was able to see the culmination of TJ's education, receiving his Master's degree from the University of Colorado Denver after earning his BA from Ft Lewis College.

Jim was a life member of Temple Lodge #6, Scottish Rite of Santa Fe, Ballut Abyad Shrine and PD of ROJ Ct #24. He was very proud to serve as a Board Member of Shriner's Children's Hospital of Southern California from 2017-2022.

Jim treasured the hundreds of personal friendships he made, both professionally and socially. He is survived by his wife Tina Marie, son TJ and sisters Janet, Gail and Evelyn.

Cremation has occurred. A public remembrance will be held later in the fall. Special thanks to Compassus Hospice and Visiting Angels for their care and assistance.

Honorary pallbearers are Tyler Young, David Peters, Dennis Detrow, Rod Detrow, Scutter Newton, Don Anderson and AJ Olsen.

Donations in Jim's memory can be made to Ballut Abyad Shrine permanent fund, 6600 Zuni Rd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.

I am saddened to read of Jim´s passing. I extend my deepest condolences to his wife, son, and sisters.
I got to know Jim in the seventies at Sandia Savings during my early years under the employ of his Dad. "Jimbo"
Worked with us downtown during his college breaks and was a joy to work with. As a young man he demonstrated a great work ethic and was very respectful to others. He was always eager to learn and completed his tasks like a pro.
Jimbo had a fun sense of humor and shared countless clean jokes with me during our many lunches together. We would walk to all the good lunch places together almost every day. I have the fondest of memories walking to lunch with that lanky and tall young man!
Everyone eventually goes there own way in careers but I kept track of Jim as he grew in his business and family career, with our occasional phone conversations.
I will always cherish my memories of Jim and having known his sisters.

My name is Kent McDonald, and Jim was my next door neighbor in Parkland Hills. He was the enthusiastic, youngest son in a house of four women. He had a second sense in judging the social pulse of those around him, and it is no surprise that he rose to the heights that he did. He was always generous and serving. He will be missed!

I met Jim back in 1992 when I applied for a position at Union Savings Bank. Jim was on the board of directors and I think he liked to pull for the underdog and likely talked the others on the board into giving me a chance. He supported me throughout my career and introduced me into many circles that I'd have otherwise not had the opportunity to engage in. He was a fun guy, full of energy, and was always willing to help anyone that needed it. I always knew that if I needed something, he'd have a solution and would be willing to assist. We sat in many board meetings and I think he liked managing the players and personalities as much as he did the big commercial real estate deals. Jim, you were one of kind and will be missed.
