JAMES DAVID WOLVERTON DeMOTTE, IN
James David Wolverton, 69, of DeMotte, IN, died October 3, 2012 with his family and loved ones by his side in Crown Point, Indiana. A loving, kind and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Jim was born on February 11, 1943 in Indianapolis, IN to Ralph and Clio (Bailey) Wolverton. He grew up on his family's farm in Greenwood, IN and graduated from Center Grove High School in 1961. Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1965 from Franklin College, Franklin, IN and a Master of Science degree in microbiology in 1967 from Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Jim married Rebecca (Brock) on August 6, 1966. In addition to his beloved wife, Jim is survived by his adored children: Jennifer (David Schroeder) of Aurora, IL, Stephanie (Darrel Wynkoop) of Hebron, IN, Polly Weiss and her husband Robert Kasper, of Crete, IL, and Kurt Weiss of Gary, IN. He is also survived by six cherished grandchildren: Adam, Sarah, James, Clara, Jacob, and Emma; two brothers and their spouses: Jack Bailey and Lisa, and Lee Wolverton and Carrol; and nieces and nephews: Ross Bailey, Bryan Bailey, Bryan Wolverton, and Anjie Ivey (Wolverton). A dedicated educator, Jim spent 37 years as a professor of biology at Olive-Harvey College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, and was a successful real estate investor and entrepreneur. He was an avid collector and admirer of classic automobiles, and a member of the Winamac Old Car Club. Throughout his adult life, Jim was a generous and hard-working volunteer on behalf of church and community causes. Most recently, he co-directed the Hebron Country Pantry, was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hebron, and was a volunteer for the local Call-a-Ride program. Jim loved to travel, spend time with his family, participate in antique car shows, and play with his two pet pugs, Puggy and Huggy. A private family service was held to celebrate his life and its blessings.
