James Wood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 22, 2017.
James (Jim) Allen Wood, 72, of Oakdale, MN formerly of Minot, ND passed away December 20th after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia & Parkinson's disease.

Jim spent the majority of his life in Minot, ND. He loved the community & was very involved. Jim was a man of faith & loved singing in the Zion Lutheran Church choir. He spent a short time in the Navy during Vietnam & returned to Minot State to complete his degree. He was a teacher, a salesman & a sports enthusiast.

He lettered in three sports during his time at Minot High but his favorite by far was baseball. Jim was an avid Twins fan & had the opportunity to play ball with some Twins legends at Fantasy Camp in 2011. Jim took up golf later in life & developed many great friendships at Souris Valley Golf Course. He loved to hate the sport & it fueled his competitive nature.

He loved with his whole heart & gave generously. Jim was a true extrovert that could talk to anyone & often said that we are put on this earth to love one another. He practiced this each & every day of his life.

Jim moved to Minnesota in 2011 to be closer to his daughter Allison (Jeff) Mehlhorn & grandchildren Alex & Austin as his disease progressed. He loved his grandsons so much & found tremendous joy spending time with them & teaching them baseball. He was loved & cared for by many in his final years.

Jim's spirit will live on through the family & friends that survive him. He joins those that preceded him in death in God's promise of eternal life.

Celebrations of life January 6th, 10am at Christ Lutheran Church, 2475 17th Ave E, North St Paul, MN 55109 and January 13th, 9am at Zion Lutheran Church, 1800 Hiawatha St SE, Minot, ND 58701.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are preferred to the Minot Junior Golf Association, 317 16th St NW, Minot, ND 58703.

Allison, Jeff, Alex & Austin, I am sorry to hear about your Dad/Grandfather. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Take comfort in knowing he is now your "Angel" from above and will be with you always.

Was pleased to meet him and sing some songs with him this year. Glad he is at rest after his long battle.
