Janalee Welter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 13, 2025.
Ms. Janalee "Jan" Wenonaha Welter, age 66, passed away on April 10, 2025, in Oregon City, Oregon.

Born on January 23, 1959, Jan's life was a vivid canvas of bold colors and deep feeling. A proud graduate of Oregon City High School, she once led as a spirited Majorette-twirling her baton with a confidence that would become the hallmark of her life. That same spark continued to burn brightly in every chapter that followed.

Jan moved through the world with fierce conviction and a heart open wide. Her loyalty ran deep, and her presence was electric-an unmistakable energy that lifted every space she entered. Those who knew her felt the warmth of her soul and the strength of her beliefs.

A devoted caretaker of animals and nature, Jan gave tirelessly to those without voices. Her home was a refuge for creatures in need-from rescued strays to injured wildlife-and always filled with compassion. Among them was Tiki, her cherished dog and faithful companion.

Art flowed naturally from Jan's hands. Her creativity was endless, and could be witnessed in everything she touched; everywhere she went her artistic influence was evident. Her work reflected the world as she saw it-raw, honest, vibrant-each piece an echo of her innermost self.

Jan is lovingly remembered by her children: Dr. Ciara Luna; Mr. Brandon Sanders; Mr. Justin Sanders; and Mr. Destin Welter and her beloved grandchildren: Samantha; Logan; Brice; and Kelly. Within each of them lives a thread of her spirit-resilient, passionate, enduring.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille Welter and Gary Welter.

Her memory lingers like brushstrokes on canvas-bold yet tender, wild yet intentional-reminding all who knew her of the beauty found in living unapologetically and loving without restraint.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and inspiration to all who remember her fierce love for life.

In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests donations to the Oregon Humane Society in Jan's name. Donations can be made at: https://www.oregonhumane.org/

Today, I made a lantern for my mom and released it into the Pacific Ocean as part of a memorial. This was a way to express our gratitude and send prayers for all the spirits and forms of life that have supported our existence since the beginning of time. It was a peaceful way to honor my grief and wish her soul a safe onward journey.

My sister always had a heart for the wounded! Here we are helping a pelican that had a huge fishing hook in his chest. She should´ve been a veterinarian.
