Janet Buono

Janet MacRae Buono passed away on March 20, 2025 at the age of 84 in Bluffton, South Carolina, surrounded by her children and grandchildren after a very brief and sudden illness. Janet is survived and will be greatly missed by her three children and their spouses who she loved very much, Nancy Dalzell (Steven), Robert Buono (Joan), Melissa Spierling (Jeff), and her cherished grandchildren, Taylor, Jack, Robert, Dillon, and Jess who adored her. She is also loved dearly and is survived by her two brothers, Duncan and William MacRae. The love of her life, Francis Xavier Buono, predeceased her in 1975. Her enormous strength and resilience carried her through this most difficult chapter as did her family and close friends who helped her to be the most amazing mother to her children.

Janet was a proud member of the very first graduating class of River Dell Senior High School in 1959 and was the captain of the cheerleading squad during her years there. She was a lifelong resident of Bergen County, New Jersey and parishioner of The First Congregational Church in River Edge. Janet exuded kindness and warmth to all those who knew her. She frequently opened the doors of her beautiful home in River Edge to friends in need of love or a place to stay. As a mom, grandmother, and aunt she could be found on the sidelines of sporting events as well as serving as PTO President when her children were in school. Janet also loved to bake, making birthday cakes for co-workers and baking cookies with her daughters and granddaughters every Christmas. She was an avid gardener with a "green thumb" who loved planting flowers each Spring. She worked for many years at JP Morgan Chase Bank and later at The Oradell Animal Hospital. She was an animal lover and her dog Sammy was her most loved furry companion for many years.

Janet's absence will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Those who love her are comforted in knowing she is finally reunited with Frank, her sisters Jean and Christine, sister-in-law Shirley and her parents, all whom she missed dearly. Her love, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew Janet.

To honor her memory, a donation to a local animal shelter would be appreciated as well as continuing to spread her legacy of love and kindness to others. A celebration of her life will be held this summer.
