Janet Goglia Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2011.
Goglia, Janet Kay Former Resident of Edina Sept. 19, 1953 - Feb. 14, 2011 Janet Kay Goglia passed away on Valentine's Day after a courageous battle with cancer. She touched many lives with her open and accepting spirit and positive outlook on life. Jan was born and raised in Syracuse, NY, graduated from Henninger High School. She studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC and went on to earn an associates degree in Graphic Arts from Parkland College in Champaign, IL. She enjoyed a lifelong career as an artist starting with art director at the Solo Cup Company in Urbana Illinois. While she was trained as fashion illustrator and graphic artist, her art interests were diverse. She worked for years in stained glass and blown glass. Even as she pursued art in glass, she maintained a strong interest in fashion and fabric. Her creative skill with fabric and sewing were well known. Anyone who had interest in that area found her eager to share her stories and passion. Later, as sewing became more difficult, she migrated to fabric art and collage making. Her passion was for creating beauty and making the world a more beautiful place. She lived with her husband in Urbana, IL, Boise ID, Minneapolis, MN and Pleasanton CA. After 18 wonderful years in Minneapolis, this became her true home and where she was blessed to have many true and close friends. She spent her last six years in the beautiful town of Pleasanton where she found happiness through new friends, the wonderful weather, the ocean and a new spiritual journey. Jan is survived by her loving husband, Peter; devoted children Christopher of Dallas, TX and Alexander of New York City. Janet was the daughter of the late Martha Koppenhafer. She is also survived by her father, Charles Machell of Florida, brothers David Machell of Syracuse, NY; Eric Koppenhafer (Penny) of Ithaca, NY; Christian Koppenhafer (Kendall) of Boise, ID and sister Carolyn Warner (Mark) of Syracuse, NY. Her boundless energy for creating beauty, friendships and her strong, steadfast beliefs were an inspiration to all who met her. I will miss you, we all will miss you. You were truly a special and gifted person. Godspeed. Friends and family are invited to a service on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:30 AM to be held at Chapel Hills Church. A reception will follow. No flowers please. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Chapel Hills United Church of Christ 6512 Vernon Ave. S. Edina, MN 55436 Phone: (952) 935-3025
