JANET MARIE SLOAN

Janet Marie Sloan passed away in Peachtree City, GA, on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. The cause was cancer. Janet was a daughter of the late Charles R. Stratton and the late Celia Lay Stratton. She was born in Washington, DC on January 16, 1959, and grew up in Alexandria, VA. She graduated from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria (class of '76). T.C. Williams was made nationally famous in the year 2000 movie, "Remember the Titans". Janet played clarinet in the marching band there. After high school, Janet graduated from Emory & Henry College, Virginia (1980). She met her future husband, Michael Sloan, at Emory & Henry. They were married in Alexandria, VA on September 4, 1982. From 1982 until 1990, Janet and Mike lived in Florida, Texas, and California while Mike served in the Navy. From Mike's last duty station in Pensacola, FL, they moved to Flower Mound, TX and Mike began his civilian career flying for Delta Airlines. Their children, Kelsey and Connor Sloan, were born while they lived in Texas. In 2004, their family moved to Peachtree City, GA. Janet obtained her real estate license and worked for Berkshire Hathaway in Peachtree City as a realtor.

Janet cherished her family, and she was a devoted wife and mother. She loved all animals, but especially horses, cats, and dogs. She spent many happy hours riding her horses in her younger days. She enjoyed decorating and painting with watercolors and acrylics.

Janet is survived by her husband, Michael Sloan, and daughter, Kelsey Sloan, of Peachtree City; son, Connor Sloan, of Newnan, GA; brother, James E. Stratton (Karen Downs), of Alexandria, VA; sister, Linda D. Stratton (Brian Lake) of Monroe, WA; father-in-law, CAPT Stanley Sloan, USN (ret.), of Tucson, AZ; sisters-in-law Jan Goldman (George) and Shery Wynekyn (Mike) of Tucson; nephews Edward and David Stratton, of Alexandria; niece, Lucille Myers (Steele) of Leland, NC; nephew Mike Kase of Huntsville, AL; nephew Matt Kase of Habersham, SC; six first cousins; a grand-niece and grand-nephew; and many good friends from Alexandria, Emory & Henry, Flower Mound, Peachtree City, and other places where she lived. Her parents, her mother-in-law, Alys Sloan, and a sister-in-law, Arlene Stratton, previously passed away. A private memorial service is planned.

I was one of Janet´s college roommates from E&H College and I am fortunate to have known her and shared such wonderful memories over the years . There was nothing more pleasurable than to spend a relaxing day with Janet in Meadowview, VA. with her cherished horse, Sheeba on a warm, sunny weekend. A day with Janet´s warm smile and genuine personality would melt all the stresses of those days of college. I will miss her dearly but am thankful for many cherished memories. Love to Mike, Kelsey and Connor. Tomi Nave

My husband and I had the pleasure of closing two homes with Janet. She was the best realtor, and even more, she was a kind, thoughtful and sincere individual. She was a fantastic listener, and someone who loved people. She cared for her clients, and I am thankful we were able to work with her. My prayers for her family, whom she loved and spoke of with highest regards.
