Janet Stockton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 14, 2025.
Janet Morris Stockton, age 93, peacefully passed away on July 15, 2025, following a short illness. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Sierra Winds Retirement Community Center Chapel with a reception to follow.

Janet was predeceased by her dear husband of over 65 years, John F. Stockton; her parents, Oliver and Marjorie Morris; her three siblings, Gordon, Nancy, and Carol Jean; and all her in-laws. She is survived by her three children: daughter Margo Ottman (William); sons Bradley (Stephanie) and Bryan; five grandchildren: Matthew (Isabella), Daniel (Logan), Aidan (Jerrod), Dane, and Drew; and six great-grandchildren: Maryrose, Owen, Winston, Briar, Sayler, and Nolan.

Following graduation from Long Branch Senior High School in 1951, Janet earned a BA Degree in Sociology from Adelphi University. After graduation, she was employed as Director of the Social Service Department at Fitkin Memorial Hospital in Neptune, New Jersey. She met Lt. John F. Stockton at a dance when he was stationed at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, and they were married in 1956.

John's engineering carrier took them to Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. They were blessed to have a daughter, Margo, and two sons, Bradley and Bryan. Wherever they lived, they always joined a church. Janet served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and was a circle leader. In 1995, she and John joined Desert Palms Presbyterian Church where she was chairman of the Craft Group, Folders, and volunteered at West Side Food Bank. She was a member of the Sun City West Writers Group and several of her poems were published in the Daily News-Sun. John and Janet moved to Sierra Winds in 2011, where Janet was active in Reader's Theater and co-chaired DPPC Friendship Group with her husband John.

Janet believed in living life to the fullest in spite of having Parkinson's Disease. She was a loving human being, faithful wife, and devoted mother.
