Rumford – Janice F. Plante, 81, of Washington Street in Rumford, passed away on Saturday October 20, 2018 at Rumford Hospital surrounded by her loving family following a long illness.
She was born in Waterville, Maine on June 24, 1937 a daughter of August and Phoebe (Trial) Picard.
Janice attended grammar school in Quoticook Canada in a convent and was a graduate of Stephens High School Class of 1955.
In her younger years she was employed with Diamond Match and Oxford Paper Co.
She married Thomas W. Plante, Sr. in June of 1962, together they celebrated 18 years of marriage, he passed away in October of 1980.
Her life was devoted to being a loving wife and mom, following the passing of her husband she went to work at Sunday River for a few years.
Janice was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and former member of the Red Hat Society.
She enjoyed spending time with her family at Roxbury Pond.
Janice also loved gardening, bowling, cooking, oil painting, shopping at Mardens and visiting with her friends at McDonalds.
She was an animal lover, and especially loved her cats and her grand dog Izzy.
Surviving are her two sons, Thomas W. Plante, Jr. and wife Jamie of Mexico and Christopher A. Plante of Rumford; a sister, Irene Fournier of Gardner, MA; a granddaughter, Tausha L. Plante of Rumford; two great grandchildren, Devarae L. Gurney and Avery R. Bradeen; and one great-great grandson, Lucas J. Rand.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Thomas W. Plante, Sr., a son, Michael Plante, three sisters, Anita, Barbara and Gerry; and a brother, Lionel.
Visiting hours will be held from 10 am to 12 pm on Friday November 2, 2018 at SG Thibault Funeral Home, where a Celebration of Life will follow at 12 noon. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Janice's memory may be made to the Dempsey Center 29 Lowell Street Lewiston, ME 04240.
