Jean Perrie Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 26 to Jun. 27, 2006.
OBITUARY JEAN ELEANOR (NEE IRVING) PERRIE 1918 - 2006 On June 24, 2006, after a valiant struggle, surrounded by the family so dear to her heart throughout her life. A devoted wife of fifty-seven years to the late Harold Stephen William Perrie. Beloved mother, best friend, and soul mate to her two daughters Jane Perrie (Jim Lengacher) and Jill Perrie (Peter Collins). Dearly cherished grandmother to Jonathan Dalton (Kelly) and Stephen Nicholson (Valerie) and David Nicholson. Proud and precious great-grandmother to Riley-Jane, Haley-Jean, Emily and Trevor Dalton and Loric and Nathan Nicholson. Born August 17, 1918 to Tessa Maud Thompson and Reginald Stuart Irving, "Ellie" as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was a graduate of Queens University, a school teacher by profession, a bridge player, an excellent golfer, and a tennis fan. A long time resident of St. Lambert and Pointe Claire, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario, Ellie will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a consummate lady of grace and dignity who loved best being a mother and homemaker. She taught us all, through example to value family above all else, as the driving force and centre of our family circle, she cherished her two daughters, Jane and Jill, and sacrificed her life to ensure their happiness, especially in her later years, by caring single-handedly for Harold as he deteriorated into ill health. Never once did she ask for help and never once did she complain throughout her life, the ultimate-caregiver; patient, gentle and kind. She was the person we all knew we could count on when things got tough. She was reliable, steadfast, dependable, and strong for all of us until the very end. A pillar of quiet strength, never ending compassion and boundless love, she was and will always be the wind beneath our wings and the fire alight in all our hearts. Rest in peace Mummy. One day we'll all be together again. Watch over us until then with Daddy. The family would like to express sincere thanks to colleagues at Lindsay Place High School and Rosemount High School for making it possible to care for our mother during the last three months of her life. Donations in Ellie's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. No visitation. Funeral service private. Family only she requested.

Dear Jane and Jill: I was indeed saddened to learn about the death of your mother. Ellie was a dear friend to my partents, along with your Dad, and she was a role model to all us young women! I remember the days at the cottage especially with you and all our parents. Your Mom was a superb cook and I still recall her excellent dishes and love of recipes! Your Mom and Dad retained all their St. Lambert friendships long after they moved to Ottawa and for that my parents were grateful. Ellie was Mom's best friend and a loyal and loving friend. I hope they are shopping together again on Heaven's main street! My heart is with you both and I shall remember you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Jane and Jill:

It was with great regret that we learned of the death of your mother, Eleanor. It was only then that we also noted the earlier death of your father, Harold. We have fond memories of both Eleanor and Harold because, as you know, they were great friends of my (Bruce's) parents, Doreen and Frank. In fact, the last time that we saw your parents was at my father's funeral in September, 1999. At my sister Carole's house after Dad's funeral, we had a chance to have a long chat with them.

Our deepest sympathies in your time of sorrow.
