Jean Swofford Terrien

Jean Swofford Terrien died September 7th, 2022. She was sixty-five years old. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jean studied organic chemistry at Chapel Hill then earned a juris doctor from Duke. She practiced as a tax attorney for fifteen years, holding positions in Washington DC, New York City, and Geneva. Having left the legal profession after the birth of her son, she became a psychotherapist after training at The Family Institute, in Evanston, Illinois. She saw clients from 2006 until her retirement earlier this year. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, colleague, friend, and advocate. In the last decade of her life, she championed the cause of sensible gun control in Illinois; her greatest desire was to better the lives of others. She is survived by her loving husband, Michael, loving children, Preston and Allegra (Cody) Nelson and grandchildren, Braden and Cody, Jr. Visitation Monday, September 12, 2022, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Boulevard, Skokie, IL 60077. Funeral Mass Tuesday, September 13, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church, 806 Ridge Avenue, Evanston, IL 60202.
