The end of the year always sparks memories of the past for me. I reflect on so many aspects of my life, good and bad. I fondly remember neighborhood friends, Jeff being one of them. His family lived next door to us and they were great neighbors. Although we did not maintain contact over the years, his passing still hit me ... Another piece of my childhood was gone. I am sure he has a special place in heaven.

May the God of all comfort strengthen the entire family during this time of sorrow. Those who die God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. (Psalms 116:15) My sincerest sympathy.

My most heartfelt condolences to the family and close friends of Jeff Cushing! He was one of those rare educators who gave 110% every day. He was my track and cross country coach at Lumberton High and I was fortunate to have his guidance for 4years and to witness his unwavering effort to promote athletics as a lifestyle and a stepping stone to higher education and a better life for kids in Robeson County. Even though I now live in California, his influence will remain with me!

I was shocked to find out about Jeff's passing, and that it happened in such a tragic way. Our families lived next door to each other while we were growing up and I just reconnected with him on Facebook about a year ago. We chatted occasionally via email and Facebook. We did some 'catching up' with each other's lives and about the old neighborhood and shared our memories. I can't imagine the heartbreak his family is experiencing; but, my prayers are with them.

when I was a freshmen at uncp in 1975, Jeff and Gaye were very kind and helpful in guiding me through my first year, not because they had to, but because it was the kind of people they were, he was always running, but never to busy to lend a hand, he was a wonderful compassionate person and I am a better person for having known him, God send comfort to his family.

My deepest condolences and prayers go out to Jeff's family for this tragic loss of his life. I will always remember Jeff from our days spent together at Montgomery College to Pembroke taking classes together in the Physical Education Department as well as the many miles we ran together on the X-Country and Track teams. I remember his unique cars he seemed to always come up with , from an "old" Saab to an MG Midgit that could run on a good day.Jeff was a generous man with a positive attitude for life. He will be missed.

When I arrived at Pembroke State, he was one of the first to greet me. Although he had already graduated, he gave a lot of his time to the university; which made the transition easier for greenies like me.

Coach Cushing was my Track & Field coach at LSH from 1986 - 1988. He was one of the coolest guys I've ever met. He really understood the sport and did not mind sharing his experiences with you. He was a good man and will be sorely missed. God Bless you coach and blessings to your family during this tough time.

I am so saddened and stricken with grief about the tragedy. When I was a freshman in 1976, I met Jeff who had just recently graduated. During my first several weeks and months adjusting to a new city, the school & to a new country, as I am originally from Trinidad (Caribbean) he offered me assistance with understanding the Pembroke culture. I will forever be appreciative of his warm friendship. Jeff, you will be missed.

I was lucky to call him a friend, and blessed that he coached our Kim in cross country. He would tell the kids if you can run cross country, you can do anything. And most of the kids proved him right.
