Jeffrey Manning Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 15, 2023.
After a lengthy illness, Jeffrey William Manning, 85, died peacefully at the Veterans Home in Salisbury, NC on July 14, 2023. He was born in Salem, MA on May 18, 1938 to Ferguson and Margaret (Healy) Manning. He graduated from Holton High School in Danvers, MA in 1956 and continued his education at Bentley College in Waltham, MA receiving a degree in accounting. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1961, serving his country honorably for two years in Fort Dix, NJ as a Personnel Specialist 4th Class.

Early in his career he worked for Howard Johnson Hotels as auditor and programmer in their New England division and subsequently Vice President and Comptroller with Ponderosa Steak House. His last employment at CVS Pharmacy in downtown Winston-Salem was the most memorable where he met many new friends and the occasional notable movie actor or actress who might pass through his door while filming in town.

Jeff is survived by his wife Beth Morgan Manning. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Anne Marie Cyr of Danvers, MA. Surviving also are Carolyn Lonergan and Christopher Cyr and wife Kathryn along with many nieces and nephews who fondly called him 'Kunkle Jeff'.

There will be an open house celebration of his life on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 2:00pm at the family home, 2516 Lullington Drive in Winston-Salem, NC. At a later date there will be a private family internment at the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.

I will miss Jeff at our family gatherings. He had a warm smile, especially when you needed to know where to park the car.
It was for sure not an easy stretch at the end, but so grateful you were his ally, he was a better man for it.
