Jeffrey Slater Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 11, 2016.
July 1, 1949 - November 15, 2016 Jeffrey Keith Slater, 67, died suddenly November 15, 2016. Born to Ken and Bette Slater July 1, 1949 in Bellingham, WA, Jeff graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1967. Jeff attended UW, working on a Business degree, until his college plans were interrupted by the Vietnam War. Jeff served as an Army MP based in Nurnberg, Germany from 1971 – 1973. After his military service Jeff returned home to continue his UW studies and begin working in the banking world. He worked for SeaFirst Bank from 1975 to 1984, first in Lynnwood, WA then Sedro Woolley, WA. He then moved over to US Bank from 1985 to 1995, working in their Lynnwood and Everett, WA branches. In 1979 Jeff married Catherine Bart, adopting her son, Ron, as his own. Daughter, Brittany, arrived in 1985. The family moved to Woodinville, WA as Jeff transferred to a Lynnwood branch of US Bank. Disaster struck in 1996 when Jeff was injured in a bizarre accident, suffering a traumatic brain injury requiring a difficult, long-term recuperation. By 1997 he was back at work in banking, continuing through his last job as a Business banking manager at Navy Federal Credit Union. Jeff loved his automobiles. His car collection totaled 30+ over the years, including many vintage VWs and other antiques. He was a member of Rotary, Kiwanis, the Sons of Norway and TBI Support Groups. Jeff's church, Rock of Hope Baptist in Edmonds, WA, was very special to him. He served as a Sunday school teacher, "chef" for brunches, and treasurer. Jeff was predeceased by his parents; and his nephew, Riley Johnson. He is survived by son, Ron, and wife, Fran, of Brighton, MI.; daughter, Brittany, and husband, Zach Gautreau, of Woodinville; sister, Janna (Phil) Haupt; sister, Carolyn (Jim) Mullen; granddaughter, Katie Slater; nephew, Zach Mullen; niece, Keena Mullen. A memorial is scheduled Saturday, December 17, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at Rock of Hope Baptist Church, 7812 224th St. SW, Edmonds, WA. Memorials may be given in Jeff's name to the Brain Injury Alliance of Washington. http://www.biawa.org/

Jeff was an Icon in the Vintage Volkswagen world as well as the Petroliana world. Although many of us had lost touch with Jeff, he was always on our minds and in our conversations. I can only speak for myself but am sure others from both of those communities are both shocked and saddened by his sudden passing some 6 months ago. God Speed & God Bless you Jeff... Until we meet again.

I only head the pleasure of talking to Jeff once at work because I'm new- but we held a great conversation & he gave me a pen and made a joke about me using it a lot & thinking of him each time. I'm disappointed I didn't get to talk to him more because there was a lot of value in his words.

Jeff was the first banker who helped us establish our company. He helped us more than the usual banker in many different business aspects. We hold him in very high regard and missed him when he had to leave the banking area for us. We can never say enough "Thanks" for the extra mile he took for us and our family. The Roths and SensorLink will always remember him. God blessed our lives with knowing and working with Jeff.
