Jennie Naomi "Umma" Burrell

Burrell , Jennie "Umma" Naomi
83, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on July 25, 2014. After high school, she married Billy Ralph Burrell, a 33rd Seabee. They moved to AZ because of their daughter's asthma. Jennie was the "Cool Mom" that kids and teens could talk to. Several moved in when things got tough at home. Once, she visited a church for the first time and brought home five children no one else would. Her grandchildren had a special bond with their "Umma." She helped at school, and worked with both Cub Scouts and Brownies. Jennie volunteered 11,400 hours at the Velma Teague Library, where she worked with teens doing community service. Many of them called her "Grandma," and for some, she was the only adult who cared about them. Jennie loved people; their race, ethnicity, religion, and lifestyle were irrelevant. Survived by daughters Vicki Burrell and Shelley Mosley; son-in-law David Mosley; grandchildren Andrew and Jessica Mosley; and brothers Eugene Cassell, Richard Cassell, Jerry Martin, and Douglas Cassell.
