Jennie Gabel

Jennie Lee Gabel, nee Dittle, 83, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born on February 2, 1934 in Belleville, Ill., passed away in Fairview Heights, Ill., July 28, 2017.

Jennie was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She and her seven children lived in many locations during her husband's 25 year naval career. She participated in the Naval Drama Guild and performed in many plays. She also loved reading and history. Jennie worked at the Commissary on the New London Naval Base in Groton, Conn., as a bagger, cashier and later in the personnel office. She then began her career as a medical transcriptionist. She was employed at St Elizabeth's and Memorial Hospitals in Belleville and STAT Transcription Services in St. Louis, MO until her retirement.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Virgil and Martha, nee Jung, Dittle; and her daughters, Susan Mullaney and Katie Gabel.

Jennie is survived by her son, Richard Jr., (Bud) (Kelli) Gabel of Gloucester, Va.; her daughters, Diane Gabel of Lebanon, Ill., Ruth (David) Blue of Fayetteville, Ill., Julie (Tony) Parks of Effingham, Ill. and Patty (Phillip) Elmore of Beaverdam, Va.; her grandchildren, Mike Galligan, Katie Galligan, Ellen Gabel, Molly (Ricky) Turner, David (Missy) Blue, Katie (Chris) Mense, Jamie Mullaney, Jill (Jimmy) McFan and Suzy Parks; her great-grandchildren, Conner, Natalie, Brody, Grady, Finn, Nathen, Jayden, Kassandra, Davon, Tierra, Sincear and Jada; and her sisters-in-law, Jeannine (Richard) Watts and Lynn (Tom) May.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Ill.

Services: Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Ill. Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens.
