Jennifer Bowling Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 15, 2010.
Jennifer Marie Bowling died unexpectedly on August 15, 2010 at UCSD Hillcrest Hospital after a short illness. Jennifer was born in Lafayette, Indiana on March 25, 1964, the daughter of Kenneth and Judith Plis of Alpine, CA. After living in numerous sections of the country because of her father's military service and attending as many as three grade schools in one year, Jennifer eventually graduated from high school in San Diego in 1982. During the first couple years out of high school, she had various jobs until she found her calling in the real estate mortgage field. Her father loved to laugh over the number of W-2s that Jennifer would have accumulated at tax time during this early employment period while she was finding herself at numerous companies and in different positions. Over the next fifteen years, she worked in the home and business escrow offices of Southland Title and Commonwealth Land Title where she specialized in refinancing loans. In 1999 she married Lt. Col. Peter Bowling, USMC. After his retirement from the Marines, they moved to Bloomington Springs, TN to live on their farm to raise cows for breeding and sale. She loved to walk the fields of their 146 acre property, and while showing her affection for the more than twenty five cows they were raising, she also found homes for six dogs and three cats. She loved to express the excitement of seeing a calf being born into the world and taking those first few wobbly steps of life. In 2008 she returned to California where she resided in Vista California for over a year until she taken from this world by her illness. In death, Jennifer donated her eyes to the San Diego Eye Bank so that people with eye disease may be helped and portions of her skin to the UCSD Medical Center so that burn victims could also benefit from this tragic loss. Jennifer is survived by her mother and father, her sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and James Sommers of Ramona, CA, her two grandmothers, Ann Plis and Veronica McGee of Auburn, NY, and her niece and nephew and their spouses, Kristina and Carlos Lopez, and Kenneth and Elsa Sommers of San Diego. Jennifer's family would like to thank the Emergency Room and Critical Care physicians and medical staff at UCSD Thornton Hospital and the Critical Care physicians and medical staff at UCSD Hillcrest Hospital for their valiant effort to save her life. Their tireless effort through the thirty day ordeal was gratefully appreciated. The professionalism demonstrated by the staffs of both hospitals was exceptional. And lastly, the compassion that was provided to our family during this extremely trying time was comforting. Thank you. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be sent to: Escondido Humane Society 3450 E Valley Parkway Escondido CA 92027 (760) 888-BARK (2275)
