Jerry Almanza Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 26, 2016.
"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30.

Jerry Almanza was received into the arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday the 24th of August 2016, after a lengthy illness. He was born on the 6th of September 1959, in Austin, Texas, to Joe and Anita Almanza. Jerry was a longtime member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Austin Texas where he attended. He was devoted to his family and his greatest joy was being around them during holidays and special occasions. Baking desserts at holiday time was a special treat for his family. He was a person with a warm heart always willing to help when he could. He especially loved his three nieces Nicki, Melissa, and Gabby, where he always found time to show his love for them. Jerry spent the last few years dealing with illness and was faithful to the end. His final job was working as a sales representative for Coty fragrances. During his lifetime he worked at different banks in the Austin area and held various positions. Jerry attended Southwest Texas State University for a while until committing himself to working full time. His fondness of plants was a trait passed on to him from his mother. He loved dogs especially his faithful companion Linus who stayed with him until the end. Thank you to all of his close friends and relatives who helped him during his time of need. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Anita Almanza. He is survived by his two brothers James Almanza and wife Liz, Joel Almanza, three nieces Nicki, Melissa, and Gabby; his Aunt Mary of California and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, the 29th of August 2016 at 7 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville Texas in the near future where a brief meditation and prayer gathering will be held.

We will miss Jerry! Praise the Lord, he is at rest!

To the family and friends of Jerry,
I want to express my love for Jerry. He was my teenage friend and my prom date. He is part of my best memories as a young adult. We worked together in the Single Young Adults and participated at church, Emmanuel United Methodist. HEB camp at Leakey was so much fun as were our outings to go bowling. He liked to put IRS for my name leaving out the i and getting a good laugh especially around tax time. His laugh and smile are some of my best memories. He was smiling this past Sunday when he saw me and called me over. We briefly caught up with the hope of talking later. We smiled and said goodbye.
Now I think he is really smiling. He is feeling great in God's glorious presence... No illness or pain. My condolences and prayers for comfort in what is an extremely difficult time. It is hard to say goodbye to truly good men and Jerry was such an man. May God bless you all.

The one thing that stands out to me when I think about Jerry was his laughter. It was joyful and without reservation. He laughed with all of himself.

During this time of sorrow, may the Lord bless you and walk beside you.

Jerry was a special man and he will be missed.
