Jerry Lee Shriver ISG US Army (Retired)  Jerry L. Shriver, age 70, passed away May 13, 2003 at his home, with family by his side, after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer. Born December 28, 1932 in Wallace, West Virginia, son of Judith Shriver. On January 28, 1949, at the age of 16, he fulfilled a boyhood dream by joining the US Army and going to Ft. Knox, Kentucky for basic training. He was then sent to Germany and served in the 1st Infantry Division where he met and married Charlotte Eckardt of Nurnberg, Germany March 4, 1954. During the following 21 years he served in many positions including senior instructor with the ROTC programs at East and West High Schools, a Drill Sgt at Ft. Gordon, Georgia and an advisor to an Infantry unit in the Vietnam Army where he received two Bronze Stars for Valor, a Purple Heart and several other decorations. After retiring in San Diego, California, he bought a franchise for a 7-11 Food Store where he remained for seven years. During that time he attended Mesa College with sons, Raimund, Terry and daughter, Patricia, and graduated with honors. He then sold the franchise and moved to Salt Lake City, bought a home, travel trailer and a boat. Charlotte and Jerry went on the road and followed the sun for two years then decided to buy a truck and follow the sun in his own truck while getting paid. Charlotte and Jerry trucked for the next 14 years, traveling 1 ½ million miles, visiting the 48 states, Canada, and every major US city. Survived by mother, Judith; wife, Charlotte; sons, Terry and Larry; daughter, Patricia; three daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; seven grandchildren; eight great-grand-children. Preceded in death by son, Raimund. Jerry will be missed. We loved him so much. Until we meet again ~ your loving wife and family.  "Aufwiedersehen, Papa, I love you." Graveside services and military honors will be Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South. Friends may call Friday, 5-7 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road.

Sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Shriver. His credentials are very admirable and his legacy will live on his off spring. His efforts have not been in vain, as his obituary implies he was truly an honorable gentleman who served his country well with integrity, and dignity. Rest in peace Mr Shriver and go with God.

My husband and I would like to express our sincerest sympathy to all of Mr. Shriver's family. His grandson Aaron is our cousin through marriage and we are very sorry to hear about his passing. May God's love and reassurance be with all of his loved ones and aquaintances throughout this difficult time.
